After last years Sins from the Past on which Helstar gave us eleven re-recorded versions of old classics and two new songs it is now finally time for their first new studio album since 13 years. This masterpiece is called The King Of Hell and is fighting with This Present Wasteland from Metal Church for a place in my cd-player.

Could we have heard the songs Tormentor and Caress Of The Dead already on Sins of the Past, the other seven songs on this promo album are from excellent quality. According to the promotion agency the first version of this album will retain 3 bonustracks. So get your hands on this first version !

Helstar was a big name in the ‘80s with classic albums like Burning Star (1984), Remnants of War (1986), A Distant Thunder (1988) and Nosferatu (1989). This was pure USA Power Metal played in the premier league. The album Burning Star for example is just as classic as the first albums from Metallica, Exodus and Metal Church. Where does Helstar leaves us in 2008 is the question? If you read the above I already gave you the answer. Again somewhere lonely at the top of the premier league of US Power Metal.

After the short intro hells breaking loose with The King of Hell, The Plaque Called Man and the already mentioned Tormentor. Excellent drumwork from Russel DeLeon, magnificent guitarwork form Larry Barragan, the throbbing bass from Jerry Abarca and the unbelievable vocals from Mr. James Rivera (o.a. Ex-Vicious Rumors, Ex-Seven Witches, Ex-Destiny’s End). US technical Power Metal at it’s best. On the next track When Empire Fall you have some time to recover from what had happened to you on the first 10 minutes of this album. Don’t get me wrong here, I said recover not heal ! If you like fast breaks and solo’s the next song Wicked Disposition is made for you. The song Caress Of The Dead we already know from Sins Of The Past. In My Darkness and Garden of Temptation are also from extra-terrestrial class. Rest me Pain Will Be Thy Name with his contrary lines that again does show the magnificent skills of these 5 musicians. Welcome Back Helstar!!
