Mystery Blue is a true metal band from France. Is that possible? Yes, it is and with an existence for over twenty years they are one of the last remaining French metalbands from the eighties. Claws Of Steel is their fifth effort and probably their best sounding to date. Previous album Metal Slaves revealed an opera like female voice within a framework of tight, heavy metaltracks. Quit original. The new album opens with the intro Twilight Zone from Mozart’s Enchanted Flute and is sung by frontwoman Nathalie Geyer like a true opera star. After that the first two songs, Claws Of Steel and Shades Of Death, blow you away in genuine Priest style. Catchy tracks and after ‘sing a long’ Electric Power the headbang fun continues with Psycho City with Nathalie yelling and screaming like a cat in heat. Great track!! For true metalfans it’s cooling off time with Destructive Instinct and The Blade but with Queen of the Damned we can raise our fists once again. The track Fuego deserves to be mentioned because, besides being a great song, it’s lyrics are completly in Spanish. Spanish speaking headbangers will probably know what this song is all about but I haven’t a clue.
For the ‘true’ metal fans this album is a must but I can imagine there will be others who can enjoy this one too if you can dig the female vocals.
