This American metalband from Pennsylvania hits the metalheads on their first full length Lost In The Shadows with some fine pure metal. Beyond Fallen is founded in 2003 and after a year kicking around release their debut MCD Beyond Fallen in 2004. Next step was writing new stuff and recording it and Lost In The Shadows becomes a fact in 2006.

Beyond Fallen plays metal, mostly mid-tempo and catchy as hell, that you could place between Vicious Rumors and Iced Earth. Singer Joe Karavis sounds to me like a little harsh version of Joe Comeau and fits perfect with the music on Lost In The Shadows. With a clear reference to the glorious eighties with fantastic guitarwork (Steve Jasvilewicz and Mike Johnson) and great drumming (Tom Carden) this album is a must for those who like that era.
Besides the heavy riffs it’s also the melody in the songs that get a grip on you and the titlesong is the best proof of that. The song Concrete Lucifer has a more modern approach with some vocal effect and the pounding repeating riff. Nevertheless a great song. Lost In The Shadows contains only good songs so I can’t pinpoint a favorite and that is the way it should be. Last but not least, the album sounds good and very heavy.
Besides terrific music it’s also the cover artwork from Joe Karavis himself that looks very professional. Too bad there is no booklet to go with it.
For metalfans this album is a great addition to their collection and for those who hesitate check out the bands MySpace page for some songs from this album.
