Abyzz hails from east Germany and have been around since 1994 and released two full-lengths’ and two EP’s already and besides the debut album they are all self released including this newborn Empusa. Is this a sign maybe?

Fact is that Abyzz plays mid tempo death metal with simple rhythms. As they say themselves ‘’To not to bore you with to much high technical arrangements.’’ Well, they succeeded, in the last part that is. They are right when they say that they don’t need lots of technical baggage to make things interesting. With some good songwriting and a sharp edge to the death metal you can go far.
And that is what’s missing with this album. It’s definitely death metal but where is the fire, the edge, the balls or whatever you want to call it. This is not bad, don’t get my wrong. But I miss the fury. The songwriting is ok but also not exceptional.

As a whole, this is not a bad record, but with this album the band will never escape the qualification: average
