| | Lets start with stating that this is a review of the Try promo, which was officially released by the band. It contains only three songs, instead of the seven presented on the album release and the artwork is different. Normally it’s not worth mentioning that I’m reviewing the promo and not the real cd, but this is different because the band officially released the promo, which makes it a sort of EP.
Grenouer is a Russian Industrial Death metal band, which was formed in 1992. They started as a brutal Death/Grind metal band, but slowly formed into an industrial Death metal band. You can however still hear their Grind influences. Opening song Devil’s Eye start with staccato old-Carcass like riffs, but quickly changes when vocalist Andrey changes from pretty lousy grunts to a half-clean scream which can’t be taken seriously. The music itself however is pretty groovy. The simple song structure reminds me a bit of Slipknot with some more Industrial.
This is certainly not a bad EP, but it has some weird things. There’s for example a moment in the song Powdering Squeeze where there’s no bass in the music. It sounds like a defect in the soundboard when a band is playing live. One last point of critics: the cover of the EP. A machine ripping a head apart… There must be something better to put on the cover. Well apparently not, because the full-length version of this EP had almost the same cover. It’s only a bit darker and the face is looking more to the left below corner.
