A new album of Symphony X means another assault on the senses. Consuming this album is considered a real treat for yours truly, a Symphony X fan since Divine Wings of Tragedy.
So beware when reading further. This is a biased review so if you don’t wanna read how great this new album Paradise Lost is, that Romeo wrote again absolutely great songs (his playing and songwriting is above any comprehension, Russel Allen does a terrific job on vocals, (his aggressive style blows you away on Set the world on fire, Domination and Serpent’s Kiss), the rhythm section hammers extremely effective and with a variation just a few can pull of, the production is the best I’ve heard of Symphony X and is heavy and crystal clear, the material on Paradise Lost ranges from great ballads like the title song and The Sacrifice to neckbreakers like Eve Of Seduction and Seven, they maintain there progressive roots with The Walls of Babylon as a personal highlight, than please stop reading.

With only Symphony X fans willing to read on it’s only fair to say that there is not an epic monument like The Odyssey on this record. The intro Oculus Ex Inferni strongly reminds of the soundtrack opening of this song. Although the last song Revelation has it’s moments it is just not a winning song. Is that a bad thing? No, that only means that Symphony X has room to improve further but that means that on the next album they become untouchable. Let’s hope so.
