Fen

01. Desolation Embraced
02. The Gales Scream Of Loss
03. Under The Endless Sky
Nowadays it’s difficult to come up with someting that’s strong and in the meantime original. Inspired by the bleak, esoteric landscapes of Eastern England, three musicians that call themselves Fen, know to manage it.
Formed in 2006, the band recorded a demo, which delivers them a deal with German label Northern Silence, who released the demo as the EP Ancient Sorrow in the autumn of 2007 and what a perfect time to release music like this.

I started the review that nowadays it is difficult to make music that is not only good and strong, but also original. Fen comes really close to this. The basic of their music is black metal, but combined with progressive rock, folk and ambient in three strong compositions. The music has a strong feel of melancholy and sorrow. The whole is very atmospheric and has that touch of doom in it. And although this recording is a mcd, the lenght of the music comes up to almost 30 minutes (28:24 to be precise).

This EP is not only a must for people who like their black like mentioned above, as well for fans of bands like Agalloch, Primordial or Alcest. I really look forward to Fen’s first full-lenght recording.
