Nefarium is an Italian black metal band, that was founded in 1997. After recording a demo in 1999 and releasing a single in 2001, Nefarium came with their debut album Preasidium in 2005. Ten years after forming the band, they start with recording their second full-length album Haeretichrist, which is released by the Polish label Agonia Records in January 2008.

When I listen to the music of Nefarium, two bands came up in my mind, namely Dark Funeral and Setherial. The music is played with the same speed and intensity of those two bands. Even the some slower parts and melodies creates that atmosphere we know from them. When we look at the lyrics, there is also nothing new under the black sun. With titles as Lucifer’s Betrayal we know enough. Also titles like 136 Bastard Priests Murdered, thirty Coins of Judas and Sin of an Apostle let nothing left to our imagination. When we look a little closer to the line up of this album, we discover two familiar faces. As guest guitar in Merchants of Hope and An Old Black Cage we see Chaq Mol of Dark Funeral and as guest vocalist in the song Sin of an Apostle we see nobody less then Infaustus (vocalist of the other mentioned band Setherial).

I know that the above writen things maybe sound a little negative, but I must say that this isn’t that bad at all. Although the band hasn’t really got a face of their own, the music is played with strong intensity. The musical skills of the members are good and also is the production, which gives us a decent recording that I certainly can enjoy.
