For me, this re-release (by Northern Silence Productions) of the in 2002 self-released album Son of the Shades of the Spanish Elffor, is something rather new. I was never really into the dark ambient and that kind of stuff.

Elffor makes ambient music of a dark and ominous kind in a medieval way. Darkness and melancholic atmoshperes goes hand in hand on this album. Orchestral parts take turns with folky medieval instruments like pipes and (casio) flutes. Acoustic guitars and piano parts are listened up with harsh spoken words and choirs. When it comes to black metal, we hear sporadic some cold distorted guitarriffs and screams. To complete the whole there are keyboard soundscapes with samples of winternights and klinging iron.

I really don’t dare to say that (black) metal fans are going to like this kind of medieval and dark ambient music. Some of them are maybe bored to sleep or death, but for them who can enjoy this kind of creations (like me), there is an interresting journey to make thoughout cold and gloomy woods and dark forgotten times. Try it and see for your self if your like it, or hate it.
