Höstmakter is the new album from, the for me unknown. Swedish black metal band Mörker. The band started out in 2004 by Ascaroth on vocals, Larssa handling synth and piano and Grimner on guitars and bass and the line-up hasn’t changed since then. Höstmakter is the second full-lenght release of this band.

Because of the label (Nothern Silence), I had a little bit of an idea what kind of music this Mörker makes. And I must say that I’m not dissapointed at all about what I hear. The grimm and raw black metal is combined with just enough folk influences, that it isn’t a predominant factor. There are strong and good melodic guitar-riffs and catchy/thrashy parts on the album. A rather balanced mix between aggression and melancholy. Also the production has my approval. It’s not too clean to keep that harsh and somewhat filthy edge. And although this kind of black metal combined with folk isn’t original at all, the music on this album has for me that something extra, that isn’t easy to describe (you can say that it knows how to grab me).
