Grenouer hail from Russia and are, as far as I can remember, the first Russian band I review. They formed in 1992 and life long days is already their 6th full length, filled with 46 minutes of modern industrial nu metal. Not the kind of music that makes my day but hey, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. Imagine a combination of Fear Factory / Strapping Young Lad and any nu-metal band. The production is allright but never exciting. This in fact goes for the entire album. The agressive voice has a prominent place in the mix but is not exciting, in fact even dull and the clean voice is also not that great. The biggest failure of the band is the experiment of the unsynchronised voice and riffs in various occasions. It sounds weird and after three turns in my cd player even annoying. They’ll never get a 4th turn. Grenouer has some surprising riffs but in general lack an identity of their own.
It seems that the band’s musical horizon changed from death metal to their current style. If they maintain this musical course they’ll never be my favourites but who knows, maybe yours?
Combined with their 15-year career and the release of their 6th album they get an ‘A’ for persistence and trying but for this album
