 | Jasun Tipton | Band: Zero Hour
Date: 2006-07-23 16:33:57 | Henri: So how are things going for Zero Hour at the moment?
Jasun: I'm very happy to say things are great with Zero Hour and we have a lot to look forward too. We're tighter than ever and look forward to the future.
Henri: How is Chris fitting in?
Jasun: Chris is an amazing person, singer and band-mate. We really couldn't ask for a better guy on all levels and to have the excitement from all the members is something Zero Hour hasn't felt in a long time.
Henri: Have you played any live shows with him yet?
Jasun: Not yet but the band is very much looking forward to playing live.
Henri: Are you getting offers to play in the US or Europe?
Jasun: We have received offers from both US and Europe and we want to play out as much as we can.
Henri: Looking at your tour schedule it seems that you are missing the summer tours and thus all of the summer festivals again. Why is that?
Jasun: The main reason is for getting the CD done so we have a product with the new line-up and the mixing just finished up Thursday of last week. We've played the material for a few friends and the response from everyone has been amazing. Now that we have this behind us we can move forward to playing shows soon.
Is that going to change?
Jasun: We are going to play to play Power Prog West with Nevermore Headlining the event. This will be during a 12 day West Coast tour in Aug. and we'll be getting out the East Coast late Oct.. We look forward to playing some events in Europe next year.
Henri: What can we expect from the new album apart from the fact
that it will be the best Zero hour album ever? ;-)
Jasun: Every song on this CD has it's own identity and you won't be saying wow these songs all sound the same. We are very proud that every song has it's own mood and vibe.
Henri: When is it going to be released?
Jasun: The release date it Oct. 10th of 2006
Henri: What are the touring plan in support of the new album?
Jasun: We'll have the East Coast basically right after the release. The West Coast tour is to get us up and running so we'll be ready for events later this year and next year. We will have some dates for Europe in 2007 too.
Henri: Is there any hope to tour as an support act for a established band?
Jasun: We are going out with Omissa in the States for the West Coast dates. We maybe playing with Bumblefoot in the East Coast. To early to say for Europe at this time but we hope so.
Henri: Are you satisfied by the level of support and promotion of your label?
Jasun: Ken Golden (Sensory records owner) is a great guy and he might not be the biggest label but he believes in us and is trying his best. Over the years his PR is better and so is his distribution.
Henri: What direction do you see Zero Hour moving in musically or are you just gonna let it flow naturally?
Jasun: Zero Hour is just going let things Naturally flow because you just can't force a song. We want to be as organic as possible.
Henri: Can you describe the writing process for us?
Jasun: It's basically Mikey, Troy and I in the practice room shooting off idea's. We usually only have the first riff and let it write itself from there.
Henri: Is Chris adding to the writing process as well?
Jasun: The music is all Troy, Mikey and I. When it comes to the lyrics it's been Chris and Troy.
Henri: What about vocal melodies?
Jasun: Chris and Troy do most if the vocal melodies and from time to time when I'm hearing a song I will put out a suggestion.
Henri: Why is it that some of the most exciting bands in metal come from the US while there is almost no audience there? How do you explain that?
Jasun: The scene has been bad this way for many years but it's now starting to get better this way we're happy to say. We're excited to start playing out here in the States because shows are getting better with bigger crowds and more acts.
Henri: How do you see the current US metal scene and its future?
Jasun: I hope it just continues to grow because METAL is the best all around.
Henri: How do you see the future with Zero Hour and what goals are you striving for?
Jasun: The biggest goal is to keep pushing out material that exceeds our expectations like "Specs of Pictures Burnt Beyond". We want to take advantage of whatever comes our way and make the most of it such as live performances, Promoting and everything that will help the band move further.
Henri: How are things with Troy's arm?
Jasun: His arms are doing great at the moment due to the hot weather. When winter was here it was really bothering him and he even dropped some students due to his tendonitis.
Henri: What happened?
Jasun: Troy got in a car accident back in 1995 and he struggled with neck problems which triggered the tendonitis in his right arm. There was a time period where Troy didn't even think he could play bass any longer which was the hardest thing for him. He didn't even pick up a bass for 8 months and with that he two new 5 strings he didn't even touch. He was very depressed to say the least and music is our lives. He's doing much better now from those days and he's truly one of the best out there. Troy and I just did instructional DVD's for Chops From Hell and should be out mid to late July.
Henri: Jasun, how has your solo album 'Seduction' been received?
Jasun: Believe it or not I've been very fortunate with the sales and response to Seduction. It's been awesome to say the least. I really loved making the CD and very happy to hear people are enjoying Seduction.
Henri: Do you think there will be ever a chance of performing those songs live?
Jasun: That could be tough because Zero Hour is number one and want to do as much as I can with that. Seduction was something I wanted to do once in the style it creates. Who knows maybe way down the line I will do something like that but not anytime soon. I love playing out the METAL!!!
Henri: Could you introduce your other band Death Machine to us?
Jasun: Death Machine is really a live band that caught the attn. of labels. We put out our S/T in 2004 and had so much fun putting that together. It's just HEAVY, in your face material.
Henri: Can fill us in on the current line up?
Jasun: You have the three from ZH being Troy, Mikey and myself. On the screaming you have Kirk (Throat), the boards Brett. Our newest addition is Elle who has an amazing voice and you can hear one of the new songs with her on our myspace page http://www.myspace.com/deathmachine Elle is Troy's and my sister and should be finishing up the new material sometime next year.
Henri: Whats happening at the moment with Death Machine?
Jasun: Kirk and Elle are finishing up the lyrics for the next CD and we have all the music tracked at Dino's. We hope to have them hit the studio soon to finish their parts.
Is there going to be a new album?
Jasun: Yes and the material is very strong.
Henri: Anything to say to the readers of Digital Steel?
Jasun: Zero Hour has our new CD coming out Oct 10th of 2006 and please take a listen if you have a chance. We poured everything into this CD and it will show from the music, lyrics and production. To the Zero Hour fans who have always stayed true by us thank you for your never-ending support. A big thank you to you Henri for always helping bands out and for your love of the Metal genres. YOU RULE!!!
